Standard precautions are the basic processes of infection control which will prevent the transmission of infection and include:
- Regular Hand hygiene before and after patients
- Effective environmental cleaning
- Use of environmental barriers such as plastic coverings on chair headrests and difficult to clean areas such as triple syringe buttons
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment and sterile disposables
- Wearing of appropriate protective equipment when cleaning instruments
- Appropriate handling of contaminated waste
- Appropriate handling of sharps
- Wear closed shoes
- Immediately immerse or bin soiled instruments after usage appropriate management of spills of potentially infectious matter
- Immunize / Vaccinate all DHCP
- Appropriate reprocessing of reusable instruments
