Information

Finalis PGLA sutures are sterile, absorbable synthetic braided sutures made from a copolymer composed of 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. The empirical formula of the copolymer is (C2H2O2)m(C3H4O2)n. PGLA sutures are available in an unstained or violet-stained (D&C Violet No. 2, color code 60725) form. PGLA sutures are uniformly coated with poly(glycolide-co-lactide) (30/70) and calcium stearate. PGLA sutures are available in various gauges and lengths, with or without stainless steel needles of various types and sizes. PGLA sutures comply with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia for "Sutures, sterile, synthetic, absorbable, braided" and those of the US Pharmacopoeia for "Surgical absorbable sutures" (with the exception of occasional slight oversizing in certain gauges).

Key features and benefits

Good tensile strength.

Knot security: With good knot security, these sutures ensure that your patients' wounds remain securely closed, promoting rapid healing.

Predictable absorption rate: PGLA Finalis sutures have a predictable absorption rate, ensuring that the sutures dissolve naturally over time, minimizing the need for suture removal procedures and ensuring reliable healing time.

By using these sutures, you can confidently provide secure wound closure, minimizing the risk of complications and promoting rapid healing. The high tensile strength and knot security of Finalis PGLA sutures give you peace of mind during critical procedures.

FAQ

Q1: How long does it take for PGLA Finalis absorbable sutures to dissolve completely?

A1: The gradual decrease in tensile strength and final resorption of PGLA suture occurs through hydrolysis, where the copolymer is broken down into glycolic and lactic acid and is ultimately absorbed and eliminated by the body. Resorption begins with a decrease in tensile strength, followed by a decrease in volume. The rate of resorption of PGLA Finalis sutures is predictable; however, the exact time may vary depending on the individual patient's healing process.
